The home screen is the entry point into our devices; they welcome us into the digital extension of our bodies. And we make a home of this hybrid we recognize as ourselves. We are welcomed by two screens, each with a screen of their own. Inside the inside screens are metal bodies, twisted and pointy over another seemingly metal surface. They shine an undefined light that they reflect, over a black graphite screen. This screen was made by a hand. We enter. A bit further, we are faced with a kind of space, a structure of something that seems to be in the process of being built but not yet finished, as if one of the interconnecting points or one of the strings connecting this structure could change at any moment. Something moves here. This space is interior exterior, it seems to be defining an interiority on the exterior. Outside and inside are merged into a familiar hybridity, one we seem to know intimately, bodily. This isn’t a passive space, although it is suspended, and you can see the sky through it and it may even seem to be standing still, gently waving with the breeze. This is a space built on weapons. We know this, it had been already suggested in the home screens that just greeted us — those tiny, shining weapons. Then we enter and we see the space is crossed by spears of some kind. And they call us to them. They demand our attention only to confront us, when we stand facing them, looking them in the eye, threatening us with their sharp blades. But they are not violent, though they do not let us forget their strength. As we answer their call for proximity, we see the blades were made by hand. They’re imperfectly pointy and sharp. The millions of scratches that make up their surface record a hand&nbsp;motion, repeated carefully a thousand times over. Searching for Intimacy ªSede, Porto 2023 Is This Home? Searching for Intimacy is the result of a research-based practice which focuses on the home as intimacy’s place. Here, the home is not thought of as a closed entity, encolosing the possibilitues of intimacy in the domestic, in opposition to the outside world, but as a space in flux in its relation to the world. Through this artistic practice, wild homes are proposed as places of confluence, which aid in the understanding of the present’s complex conditions, while fictioning and speculating about future bodies. These homes are constructed through activating two relational tools put foward in this research: on one hand, relational intimacy, creator of individual worlds and affective tool that acts as an interface, mediating entities and realities. On the other, maps of proximity; activating relational intimacy, they cartograph and measure the world in an intersubjective manner. Operating with these tools, the artistic practice creates worlds of interest and projection, and can truly begin to conceive of other ways of observing and understanding our reality. The homes proposed in this research are then the entanglement of materialities and reflections about the possible infrastructures of intimacy. <img width="4532" height="3021" width_o="4532" Haunted and invaded by hybrid bodies, these space dwells at the threshold of intimacy, between public and private, where apparently familiar elements are presented in a dramatic and artificial manner. The sense of lightness, communicated by the suspension of several elements contrasts the symbolic weight of domesticity, just as the use of weightless plastics opposes both the objects on the floor and the use of metals. In a constantly changing world, and one with blurred boundaries (between public and private spheres and other traditional divides), the methodolgy for the gesture of searching the author proposes activates the environment that surrounds the searcher as something which defines their reality. The tracing of proximities operates as a map, articulating the subject in a continuous dialogue with both the environment and surrounding entities, revealing intimacy as an intersubjective dimension.
